Chair, 1960s

The chair was produced in the 60's. The armchair presents a modern, modernist dsign. Instead of heavy, dark wood traditionally used in furniture making, it was made of bent, polished metal profile. The seat and barely scratched backrest were covered with leather upholstery in deep black.

The form of bending the armchair is derived from its construction. The side view is arranged in the letter E. It consists of two horseshoe-shaped profiles. The construction is based on the front of the furniture, with no support point at the back, so it balances and cushions movements lightly, making it extremely comfortable.

Furniture of this type originates from tubular type furniture, whose construction was based on bent tubular profiles. The first furniture presenting this style in the 1920s was designed by Martha Stam, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer at the same time.

Today, bent steel tube furniture is the canon of office furniture. These are classics and at the same time examples of modern and revolutionary design. Furniture of this kind is presented in many museums, e.g. in Vitra Design.
