The J27 stool epitomises Børge Mogensen’s furniture design when he was head of the FDB Møbler design studio in the 1940s. A restrained and simple design that does not cry out for attention, but which fulfils the original role of the stool – a piece of practical yet well-designed furniture with general appeal. FDB Møbler is now relaunching the stool, called J27, as an extremely versatile piece of furniture with multiple functions – for use at the dining table, for sitting on during an informal conversation or when doing homework in the living room. In line with Børge Mogensen’s uncompromising quality standards, the stool is manufactured from Nordic materials such as solid oak or solid beech, ensuring that it will last a long time while slowly acquiring a natural patina.
„Furniture ought to make room for people” - that has been the philosophy of FDB Møbler since 1942, when it was established, with architect Børge Mogensen heading up the studio. Many new designers have since entered the fold, but the foundational principles remain the same: To create beautiful, functional and exceptionally crafted furniture that makes room for everyday living at home. And that can withstand everyday wear and tear to age gracefully with those who use them. FDB Møbler is internationally known as a frontrunner of Danish design. It’s a story of classic pieces to be passed down from generation to generation. In fact, every new piece of FDB Møbler is born as an heirloom. The values that FDB Møbler was founded upon continue to shape every piece of oak and beech. They are woven into the seats and are upheld in each design, both when ever-popular classics are re-issued from the brand’s design archives, and when FDB launches brand new designs. Regardless of whether we are talking about iconic pieces from FDB Møbler’s classic collections or new, innovative designs, the goal is the same: To have the veritable quality of life that was envisioned when the first pieces of furniture emerged from the studio in 1942.
