With a modern look and a clear reference to one of FDB Møbler’s classic products, the Hiti floor lamp is an example of how you can create a new design, yet one which is clearly inspired by the classics. Having explored FDB Møbler’s history, the two designers Philip Bro and Dögg Guðmundsdóttir ended up drawing their inspiration from Poul Volther’s famous J46 chair from 1946. Take a look at the H-shaped bracing in turned walnut wood. The connection is undeniable. It is a tribute to the famous dining chair, but at the same time a piece of contemporary furniture with its own distinctive look - not least because of the oval-shaped, hand-blown glass. A strong take on how to bring Scandinavian design and Nordic lighting back down to earth and into a new era.
„Furniture ought to make room for people” - that has been the philosophy of FDB Møbler since 1942, when it was established, with architect Børge Mogensen heading up the studio. Many new designers have since entered the fold, but the foundational principles remain the same: To create beautiful, functional and exceptionally crafted furniture that makes room for everyday living at home. And that can withstand everyday wear and tear to age gracefully with those who use them. FDB Møbler is internationally known as a frontrunner of Danish design. It’s a story of classic pieces to be passed down from generation to generation. In fact, every new piece of FDB Møbler is born as an heirloom. The values that FDB Møbler was founded upon continue to shape every piece of oak and beech. They are woven into the seats and are upheld in each design, both when ever-popular classics are re-issued from the brand’s design archives, and when FDB launches brand new designs. Regardless of whether we are talking about iconic pieces from FDB Møbler’s classic collections or new, innovative designs, the goal is the same: To have the veritable quality of life that was envisioned when the first pieces of furniture emerged from the studio in 1942.
