Cup with Saucer Kastehelmi by O. Toikka, Arabia/Nuutajärvi, Finland, 1960s

The cup with saucer belongs to the Kastehelmi collection and is made of high-quality glass. It was designed in 1964 by Oiva Toikka for Arabia/Nuutajärvi, Finland. In addition to its revolutionary, fresh character, it was also a technical challenge. The idea of using a drop of glass to decorate the collection came from the inspiration of how to cover the marks left on the surfaces of the pressed glass pieces in the production process. Kastehelmi means a drop of dew in Finnish, which clearly inspired the creation of a unique tableware. The small glass bulbs are evenly distributed like bead necklaces around the surface of the dishes.

Oiva Toikka was one of the great figures in the Finnish art of glass making. His ingenious, rich and bold glass art is a departure from the mainstream of Nordic design. Toikki's individual style is also visible in commercial objects. Toikka has gained a solid international reputation through its rich career, dating back to the 1950s.

The cup and saucer are preserved in their original condition. The diameter of the saucer is 9 cm.
