The alarm clock goes off forcing you out of your sleep. You feel around for your phone on your bedside table, looking for the source of that painful sound. If you snooze, you loose, but today you don't want to play and you stay under the duvet for maybe too long. You prepare yourself a coffee whilst listing in your mind the emails you have to answer and, mug in hand, you return to bed in your pyjamas, opening your computer. Here you come again: another joyful day to work from home!

You start the day working in bed. Only in your best dreams you have been able to be paid for staying there! You don't mind having spilled a little coffee on the duvet, or the crumbs from the sandwich that you just ate... it doesn't stop you from lying down.

At what time did you move to the couch? Oh right, after that video conference you had. You try different asanas until you reach a terrifying conclusion: this yoga is definitely not making your muscles stronger or making you feel better... you are exerting too much pressure on the spine.

It's getting late and your stomach is starting to growl. You decide to go down to the café and have late lunch, after all, a lot of people work from the café! Everything runs smoothly until your laptop, known for its everlasting battery, once a year, and more precisely right now, dies of power failure, and the waiter still hasn't brought your food. Unfortunately today's work will not end at 17:00.

After work you give up sport – enough gymnastics for today. You eat late dinner in front of your favourite TV series, in the same sofa you spent the day and you fall asleep... dreaming of a desk, a chair and open space.

How about taking care of the ergonomics of your home office and making a suitable space? Discover our architect's ideas to create the perfect place to work from home productively.

A comfortable sitting position allows you to focus on work better than lying on your sofa. If you like working in a living room, pick your workspace in the very centre of the house. Maybe at the dining table. Find a chair that will make your mini-office stand out and help you maintain a healthy position, with your feet flat on the floor and your knees in line with your hips. And no slouching!

A perfect place to work is a home office created by the window – especially if you like having more things at your fingertips than fits in your desk. Who doesn't like a window? Besides, it is proven that natural light reduces eyestrain and can boost your wellbeing and productivity. Tip: you may use the windowsill to keep your desk tidy.

In your corner

Every dreamer whose thoughts drift easily towards planning his next holiday or thinking about an ideal place to work should think about positioning his desk in a corner. This will allow him to stay on track and finish his work before midnight. The idea of closing the working space may also be created with a lamp which, switched on at night, will brighten everyone up and shed light on their work.

The sense of a workplace can also be reached in a closed room – just give it a personal touch with decorations. Graphics of young artists, quirky postcards, magazines, cut flowers, framed photos, scents, collector's posters... we could go on forever mentioning everything that can make a wall and a desk turn into your favourite office. Just remember to have a comfortable and ergonomic chair. Sit up straight!
